Well, last night I was convinced to go see the movie premier of Eureka 7. Was not too excited over it, but the fact of anime in theatre over weighed the thought of “will this be a good or bad dub?” or the fact that I just flat out don’t like dubs. First thing that wanted to deter me was the fact of Bandai and Bang! Zoom! doing the production. The other thing was I did not feel like sitting next to a bunch of AdultSwim naru~whats and listen to their witty comments and poor improper Japanese.

Now I have seen this movie three times now, once in fan sub, second in RAW format, and the theatre premier being third. All of which nothing really was edited which was a plus. Now to pick apart the English movie dub, the opening scene contains some of our main characters being Eureka, Renton, and Nirvash. The scene also shows their teacher. With this I was mostly looking for pronunciation. ‘Nirvash’ and ‘Renton’… pronounced flawlessly. Eureka was pronounced so bad I nearly *facepalmed* in the first 10 minutes of the movie. They decided they wanted to pronounce it ” air-rehckk-ah” instead of “air-rdeck-ah” yea yea, seeing it typed is harder to explain than hearing it, but let me say that Renton’s voice actor said her name 4 different ways. The name that was butchered the most was Anemone. Now, it was so bad I can’t even recall how they pronounced it in English. Setting bad pronunciation aside there were some translation differences. The biggest one was the title: Eureka 7 ~Good Night, Sleep Tight, Young Lovers~…. Hmm…. 交響詩篇エウレカセブン ポケットが虹でいっぱい … don’t see how this romantically translates to the enlish title, when it should be, Eureka 7 ~Pocket Full of Rainbows~… minor issue, none to be fretted over I see title translations being wrong more than I would like, but moving along, there were portions that I knew had been translated a bit differently than the RAW, but not enough to change the story.

All in all I thought it was fairly well done, especially for Bandai. As for the best VA award I would have to give it to Kari Wahlgren who voiced Anemone. I thought she played/voiced the part of Anemone the best. She kept a ‘real’ tone and personality that was believable that it was Anemone’s character. None of that monotone long tone talk that sounds like you are trying too hard to be the character or that I could tell you were really trying to read from a script. No, in this it sounded like she knew the character and her roll to play the character.

Well that’s about all I have for my review. In case you were wondering, I do not plan to review the actual storyline since I will leave it up to you to write. *insert blank page* Anyway, my next review will hopefully be Canaan.

Here is the ending theme (safe to play, no spoilers)

Nyaa~~~

Been super uber busy lately. Again and again I keep breaking my promise for anime reviews. But again I will promise I will get some reviews up.

First off I have just moved into a new house so i have been busy with that. Second I have been working on catching up on some old series I don’t plan on doing a review for unless I see it necessary or I just like it that much. Anyway… for now. またね〜〜

Lately I have been quite busy with many different things. I have been watching some anime which I am still writing up some drafts so I can post on them, but for now… I will leave you with one of my favorite nonsense verses and its variation.

One fine day in the middle of the night,
Two dead boys got up to fight.
Back-to-back they faced one another,
Drew their swords and shot each other.
One was blind and the other couldn’t see,
So they chose a dummy for a referee.
A blind man went to see fair play,
A dumb man went to shout “hooray!”
A deaf policeman heard the noise,
And came and shot the two dead boys.
A paralysed donkey walking by,
Kicked the copper in the eye,
Sent him through a rubber wall,
Into a dry ditch and drowned them all.
(If you don’t believe this lie is true,
Ask the blind man — he saw it too!)

————————————————————————

i see said the blind man to the deaf dog
free admission, pay at the door
pull up a seat and sit on the floor
i’ll tell you a story i know nothing about
in the middle of the morning
in the middle of the night
two dead boys got up to fight
back to back they faced each other
drew their swords and shot each other
a deaf policeman heard the noise
and came and killed the two dead boys
a paralyzed donkey came their way
and kicked them over a 10 foot wall
into a dry ditch and drowned them all
(if you don’t believe this story is true,
ask the blind man, he saw it too!)

Lately I haven’t really been watching too much anime. Sad day – I know, but on the other hand I have been playing a bit of Mabinogi and a whole lot of Resident Evil 5. So I guess first off I will just list what anime you can expect to see a review for in the near future here.

  • Clannad ~After Story
  • Kurokami
  • Toradora
  • Shugo Chara

When will I have a review done for them? That’s a good question, because I am not to sure my self… eh hehe.

Now as for Resident Evil 5.

I spent nearly all of Friday the release day playing this game and nearly finished it. I started out on the normal difficulty and can say I am quite impressed with the game. The difficulty of the game is set quite nicely, where normal will give you quite the challenge without making it to incredibly easy. I still have yet to play it on the harder difficulty, but will be sure to post a bit of info on it later.

The graphics and lighting are outstanding. The rendering of light and reflection looks so great in this game. I could say that the graphics have greatly improved from Capcom’s norm. The controls work out quite well too. I would also like to say thank you for finally putting in the ability to strafe. Though you still cannot move while aiming, but isn’t that supposed to be apart of the Resident Evil series?

To me I felt that your partner AI lacks some actual intelligence, which can make the game quite frustrating seeing as your AI will not assist you when you need help or when you need to lure a zombie into a trap, rather your AI feels that it should go attempt to have a conversation with it, thus killing your partner making you retry it over and over again. This game was definitely designed for two physical players. One of the most interesting things about the split screen Co-op was the game doesn’t truly split the screen; it more of minimizes two screens and off sets them leaving portions of the screen unused. At first it bugged the crap out of me, but after about 45 minutes of playing I seemed to actually enjoy it more than having the screen split in half.

There was a level souly devoted to Gun on Rails, which I can say was the most frustrating level. I found many times where during this level the enemies would end up outside of the boundary box of the rails system or that during the reaction scences (like press ‘x’ to duck or dodge) the game didn’t really want to respond to your button press. I felt that the boss on that level made that portion of it even more frustrating seeing as it was purly built around the reaction buttons.

Overall, I would say any Resident Evil fan needs to play this. It will be everything you want and so much more satisfying all your Resident Evil needs. There is a large assortment of weapons, the lack of ammuntion like there should be, new types of zombies, and so much more.

The other day I was browsing Youtube and came across a video with many variations to it. The song for the video is called Kumikyoku. In a nutshell you could say it’s just one giant medley of songs. And it just seems some people just have way too much time on their hands. I will post 3 versions of the song. First version will be of a mixed version of the original Kumikyoku. The second will be the original. The thrid will be a mario paint version.

I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. It was quite entertaining. I tried to see how many songs I could pick out before looking up the song list. I got about 15 of the songs right. Well hopefully I will get some anime watching done this week so I can start posting on that.

I guess I should blog about my latest game addiction. Which would be non other than Mabinogi. Coming from playing Ragnarok on a vast number of servers (iRO, Xile, WolfRO…) and playing a few WoW private servers; Mabinogi has been an overall great experience. There are a few pieces to Mabi that feel like I have seen before in another game, but hey… what game hasn’t shared at least an idea with another? In Mabinogi there are three classes which you can be; Human, Elf, or Giant. I have one of each, but at the moment completely focused on my Human character. This game has many things for you to do than just grind (and I can’t stress enough how much I hate grinding, but that’s is another topic for another day). To just name a few; you can cook, compose and play music, Weave, Fish, Cultivate, and many more. There are more quests than I know what to do with. The quests are split up into different types of quests. You have hunting quests which require you to hunt a specific monster. You have exploration quests which can be as simple as finding a given statue to sketch or as hard as finding your way out of an underground tunnel filled with some very hard monsters. You also have the Mainstream quests. These quests are the story line of the game. It requires you to go through a series of tasks to complete to unlock more details on the story.

There is just so much to this game that explaining it all would take a whole days worth of writing. Again as I said before the overall experience has been great. Though the game has been great it has had its low points. Most the low points just end up giant headaches and frustration. The battle system for the game is a bit confusing at first, but if you’re willing to spend the time and learn it, it becomes second nature to the game. One of my main frustrations comes from the ‘I hate grinding’ mindset, as much as I love leveling and running dungeons…. I feel that all the dungeons in mabi are nearly identical. Minus the frustrations I can sadly say,

I have however been able to pull myself away from Mabi long enough to watch some anime. The main things keeping me playing mabi right now are the friends I have gained, and the vast amount of cute outfits in the game. Here are a few screenshots I have taken (click on images to see full size):

Oh the things I have missed. First off I wanted to thank Zyg and the owner of this domain for allowing me to be apart of it ^^. I guess it is time to get back in the swing of writing anime reviews again. Here I will start anew and revisit a few series I have reviewed before. In addition to anime reviews I will also be reviewing games and on that slim occasion; write a review on a manga series I might have started. For now I am laying the landscaping of my blog so I can start planting some seeds and hopefully have a full, beautiful garden.
